John Thorne - 3D Model for New Urbanist City Design

I created this 3D city model for conceptual presentation of a new TND* city design by Bud Lawrence.

The massing of the city was completed in SketchUp and then a variety of snapshot views were carefully choosen according to the important talking points and features of the concept.

Why this presentation work was crucial to the project

There are many decision-makers involved in a TND project (builders, developers, government officials, etc). Communicating the intent of the conceptual designs to all decision-makers is critical to a project's success. To this end, we created a 3D massing (in SketchUp) of the entire city, and exported perspective snapshots of key features as a basis for the color renderings that were created. This new urbanist city design was created by Bud Lawrence and his hand-picked charrette team.
